PARGA
AND SURROUNDINGS
Parga
which had once been a colony of Venice lies in the west of Greece
at the Ionian sea facing the islands of Paxoi and Antipaxoi.
The beautiful beaches surrounded by steep cliffs and the crystal
clear waters are unique characteristics of the unspoilt nature.
Parga can be easily reached from Italy by ferry (Igoumenitsa-
Corfu) and also by plane during the summer season (Corfu, Aktion-Preveza).
The distance between Parga and Igoumenitsa or Aktion is about
60 km (bus, taxi, car rental?).
The most popular sites are: Nekromantion (oracle of the dead)
to the south, the ancient Kassiopi, Nikopolis, the unique natural
biotope at the Ambrakikos Gulf at the City of Preveza and finally
the city of Arta and to the north the Zagoria villages, the
Vikos gorge, the city of Ioannina, and the ancient Theater of
Dodoni. It is also worth while hiking through the south east
part of the area, along the river Acheron and its fountains.
A visit of the historic Souli Villages and the Castle of Kiafa
is a must for its most impressing view of the unspoilt countryside.
